12U SOFTBALL
Welcome to OPYBS Girls 12U page!
For 2021, girls born in 2008 or 2009 are eligible for 12U. In the Softball program, girls may “play up” to the next level with permission from the VP of Softball. Girls may not play down, except in cases of developmental or physical disability.
The 12U league is a competitive player-pitch league focused on refining softball skills. This league uses an 12” softball, bases are at a 60’ distance and pitching is from a 40’ distance.
There will be a Player Evaluation later this Spring. This is an independent assessment of each girl’s skills provided by the Concordia University Softball staff and players to help the league create balanced teams. Please note, this is not a “tryout”. All eligible girls who sign up will be on a team. The purpose is only to help the league president and coaches assemble teams with a goal of competitive balance.
There is a 16 game regular season starting in April and extending in to June, followed by a playoff series culminating with a Village Championship Series. There is also an All-Star Game featuring recognizing a player with the OPYBS career MVP award.
Regular season games are typically scheduled on weeknights, leaving Friday and weekends to accommodate travel club practice and tournaments. Games are usually played at OPRF High School softball fields. Additional/alternate times and fields may be added as space, time and weather permit.
